This dress I made actually before I went to college, but I just never got around to getting pictures! I made it from Simplicity 1587, just modified the skirt a little. I got the fabric from the little shop that went out of business and put everything on sale for dirt cheap - it's a rayon blend of some sort.
The pattern is kind of a hit or miss pattern - I didn't have to make any adjustments to it, but some of my friends have used it, and had to really make adjustments to it! Funny - usually it's me making tons of adjustments! :) At any rate, I'm a fan of this pattern! :)
The neckline is my favorite part!
I chose to make it with 3/4 length sleeves because the fabric seemed fall-ish. Plus I don't have as many vintage warmer dresses!

Oh my gosh...I just made this dress my self two weeks ago!!!! LOVE how your turned out and absolutely adore the fabric. I have seen this pattern used so many times various ways to make a 1940's dress and I must say that it is one of my favorites so far. You look lovely:)

SOOO pretty!! You did such a lovely job! I love the skirt you used, and the rayon fabric drapes beautifully. Lovely, lovely!
ReplyDeleteDid you raise the neckline? How?!!! Figuring that out would be nothing less than life-changing for me! ;) I always have to make a little filler for the neckline because it's ridiculously low on me.
I'm enjoying your posts SO much, Tara! :)
What a classic, beautiful dress. That shade of brown, a sort of cafe au lait hue in my books, is far to underutilized in the fashion world (vintage or modern), IMO. It's beautiful and suits brunettes like you especially well.

Oh wow. I wish I had your skills? The last dress I made was kind of disastrous, but I'm going to try again. Maybe you know the pattern...It's Simplicity 4224. It's a summer dress!
ReplyDeleteThis dress is beautiful, Tara! What a good idea to make the sleeves longer for fall! I adore the way your hair is styled too!!
ReplyDeleteI love the fact that you chose to make it an autumnal dress! It looks so lovely with 3/4 length sleeves.

Such a pretty fall dress ~ that fabric is lovely. : ) I'm always on the look out for vintage dresses with longer sleeves because I don't have a large winter wardrobe either. 3/4 length sleeves really do make a difference and look so pretty too. ❤
