Recapping 2013

Snow drifts pile up to the window. Large flakes come dancing out of the sky. The house is surprisingly quiet on this Saturday morning as I sit here typing with my cup of tea next to me.

So I think, "why not write a blog post? You really have nothing significant to write about right now, but why not?"

So here I am.

2014 came in with much laughter and sweet conversations with one of my very best friends. She and her family braved the horrible roads that night to spend the evening with us. It involved Dutch Shuffle Board (called Sjoelen), baked brie, chocolate, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (Gideon is mine. the end.), and singing. What could be better! It was such a great way to kick off 2014!

When I look back at 2013, I think it might have been one of the hardest years for me actually, with settling in at a new church, a full year having a part time job, dealing with friends coming and going in my life, building relationships, having to "grow up", but all in all, I can see a lot of growth in my life, and hopefully I've come out stronger and wiser through it all.

It was also full of some of the best memories! Lots of great trips, dances, singing, laughing, music, weddings, children, tea parties, pianos, babies, smiles...

As for sewing... I didn't complete as many things as I thought I would, but overall, it was a good year:

Those were my main outfits that I made - several other small things, but these were the "big things". :)

And plans for 2014, with my sewing, I just have to make a 1930's outfit (yes, Lily, it's the first thing on my list), I'd love to get to work on my 1920's outfit (am I going by decades here?), several 1940's dresses in the works, I bought myself some polkadot cotton for a 1950's dress (it was my birthday gift from me to me), and perhaps some historical stuff, like a medieval kirtle (this is always on my list, but just hasn't gotten top priority because I don't have an occasion to wear it… nor do I have an idea how to make it… which kind of hinders the creating process….), regency spencer jackets, and a colonial dress (because I only have jackets and skirts, not a dress yet!).

So there's my recap of 2013. Here's to a new year, new plans, new dreams. :)

^that's my family. and i like them. a lot^

And I'll leave you with one of my favorite verses:

"And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ." (Colossians 3:23-24)
