Just a Simple Dress

My sister and friends were planning a photo-shoot, and I really wanted an off-white dress to wear to it. I had the idea of what I wanted in mind, but really didn't think it would happen, because I couldn't get to the fabric store in time. But then I remembered I had this crinkled off white fabric in my stash, and decided that I'd make that work.

I didn't really use a pattern... just cut a big rectangle with a neck-hole and arm holes and gathered some frills for the neck, and put elastic in the waist. Pretty easy. :)

There's the elastic thread. I am soooo thrilled with this stuff right now for modern garments. It's so much nicer than making a casing with elastic! Plus it's comfy!

Anyway... that's my latest project. Working on a few more things now, and have a LOT more in my head. :) Will post a link to some more pictures of the above photo shoot when my sister posts them.

Thanks for stopping by! :)

P.S. What do you think of the new blog header??

  4. Tara,

I've been following your blog for awhile, but never left a comment before. :) I too love sewing, whether it be modern or historic garments.

Your dress turned out so lovely! Now I'm inspired to take that light pink/coral crinkle fabric out and make a dress without a pattern! ;)

I just discovered how easy and wonderful elastic thread is too. Fabulous-ness, indeed!

  5. Easy indeed? I'm sitting gawking at the computer screen. :) But it looks amazing! And the elastic thread -- where on earth did you find it? I exhausted myself looking over JoAnn Fabrics and Hobby Lobby and I've never once found anything remotely close to elastic thread. I suppose I will forever be making casing for elastic. **doomed***

And I love the new header!

  6. Basically, I love this dress. If you wake up to find it gone, you know who the culprit will be.

    (also: I love this dress's designer. :)

  11. Allison - Thank you so much! It's very encouraging to know that other people are inspired by my work!

Hannah Elise - Thanks so much!

Esther - Thank you! I must admit, I like this one better than the old one too! :) Love you!

Brittany C - Thanks for commenting! It's nice to "meet" my followers! :) Pinky/Coraly fabric?? I love that shade of color!!

Bethany Grace - I got the elastic thread at either Joann and Hancock. At Joann, it was in the thread section in a small spool, probably under "specialty thread". At Hancock, it was in the elastic section on a spool of 30 yds, and the brand was Dritz. I hope you can find it! It's pretty fun to work with!

    Laurelyn - :D I love you!

Moriah - See the above comment back to Bethany Grace. Thanks you! I've been trying for a long time to get loose curls and it finally worked that day! :)

    Jenna K - Thanks!

Lexie - Great minds think alike! Thanks so much!

    Katrina - Thank you!
