Coming Soon....

I apologize for the lack of updates about my sewing adventures... I do have several to post about, but just haven't gotten pictures yet. Anyway, you will hopefully be getting an update about a "Regency Sewing Weekend", a new colonial dress, and sometime down the road, hopefully, a formal gown! So stay tuned!

Quote of the Day

Mrs. Gibson: Still you must acknowledge that an engagement is an engagement.

Squire Hamley: Did I ever say an engagement was an elephant, madam?

Edelweiss Patterns

It's always exciting when new patterns come out. I just found out about Edelweiss Patterns from Sense & Sensibility, who are hosting a giveaway of the Liesl's Dancing Dress Pattern. I actually was talking to my sister not long ago about how much I wanted to make a "Liesl dress", so you can imagine my excitement when I saw this pattern.

Edelweiss Patterns is a new company with a lovely website, some beautiful accessories, and a great gallery. I am really impressed with the beautiful photos of their creations!

Hop on over there and check it out! You can also blog, tweet or facebook for a chance to win a copy of the  pattern! More details at Sense & Sensibility.

Robyn's Dress

Last year we had our friend, Robyn, over for a very full day of sewing! She attends Liberty Day with us, and wanted a civil war dress for last year's event. With both of us being on rather busy schedules, we managed to fit one day of a TON of sewing, and then another day of button holes, hooks and eyes, etc. Once we finished, we went out for a photo-shoot. :)

Robyn chose brown, pink and white for the colors. We used Simplicity's pattern #2887 and completely changed it to our liking! :) We cut the bodice at the waist and made our own skirt, added a waistband, ditched all the tassels, and tweaked until we liked it! Here's the result:

Molly Gibson

This was a dress I made a few years ago from Sense & Sensibility's Romantic Era pattern, and I got inspired to make it when watching Wives and Daughters and seeing Molly's white ball gown.  I changed up the sleeves and the neckline (which didn't turn out quite right... oh well). The neck line, sleeve bands and sleeve wings are hand embroidered. The dress closes with an invisible zipper in the back. The skirt is gathered with a smooth front and the bodice is also gathered. I would probably change a lot of to the dress now, but I was still happy with the result. Enjoy the photos!

Right after I finished sewing!

Weird pose, but I don't have many photos of the front, so this one had to do....
